Closing Time

As someone who came of age in the late 90's, I can't help but think of the Semisonic hit "Closing Time" on a day like this - "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."

Today is Day One of my temporary retirement! Yesterday I said goodbye to my workplace of the last 5 years. I moved to Oregon specifically for this job, and through it i have made great friends, learned so much about social justice and how to be an advocate and ally, and been challenged emotionally and intellectually. It has not always been easy, but it has always been worth it because I believe wholeheartedly in what CAP does.

Nonetheless, I know that now is the time for me to move on. As difficult as it is to say goodbye, I'm looking forward to new challenges and opportunities for growth, new energy, new adventures.

Tomorrow I hit the road for Part 1 of my temporary retirement: cross-country road tripping! My sadness at leaving Portland is mixed with excitement for seeing new sites and old friends along the way.

There are no beginnings without endings. Time to see what the next chapter holds!
